ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of GOD
Third Sunday in Advent December 15, 2019
Lighting of the Advent Candle - Joy!
Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 4:5-7)
Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD.
There are many who say, "Who will show us some good?
Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!"
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.
*Hymn #245 “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” Veni Emmanuel
*Prayer of Adoration
*Affirmation of Faith - Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried;
He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead;
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Gospel Lesson Matthew 6:11-15 (ESV)
11 Give us this day our daily bread,12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you,15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive
your trespasses.
Affirmation of the Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:77
Let Your mercy come to us, that we may live; for Your Law is our delight.
*Hymn “My Lord, I Did not Choose You” (attached) Conder, Smith

Sermon “Christian Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer, part 2”
Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually
Gracious and holy Father, we confess our willingness to be loved
but also our reluctance to love.
We confess our readiness to accept Your pardoning grace
but also our refusal to forgive others.
We confess our eagerness to receive Your redeeming love
but also our resistance to follow You without question.
In this Advent time, forgive us our failure to respond as we should.
Come to us anew, and by Your grace, transform us to receive You
with joy, as the shepherds; with gratitude, as Simeon;
with obedience, as Mary; with love, as You have loved us.
Even so: come, Lord Jesus, come.
Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (Isaiah 40:1,2)
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her
warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her
sins.

Postlude
*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.
New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.
The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.
Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you have interest or questions about the day’s sermon, join Pastor John at the couches for a short Q&A with others.
