ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of GOD

 Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany                   February 07, 2021

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 25:14-18)

   The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear Him,

            And He makes known to them His Covenant.

   My eyes are ever toward the LORD,

            For He will pluck my feet out of the net.

   Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.

            The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.

   Consider my affliction and my trouble,

            And forgive all my sins.

*Hymn                  “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”                                                     Williams, Casella

   1. Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land.

       I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand.

       Bread of heaven, Feed me now and evermore;

       Bread of heaven, Feed me now and evermore.

   2. Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing waters flow;

       Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through.

       Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

       Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

   3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside;

       Death of death, and hell's destruction, Land me safe on Canaan's side.

      Songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee; Songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee.

   Ending

       Land me safe on Canaan's side Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears

       Land me safe on Canaan's side Bid my anxious fears, bid my anxious fears, goodbye

*Profession of Faith - Westminster Shorter Catechism Q? 38

   What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?

            At the resurrection, believers, being raised up in glory,

          shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgment,

          and made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God to all eternity.

Epistolary Lesson                        Ephesians 2:11-13                                              (page 976-7 in pew Bible)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 25:4,5,8,9

   Make us to know Your Ways, O LORD; teach us Your Paths.

            Lead us in Your Truth and Teach us,

   For You are the God of our salvation; for You we wait all the day long.

            Good and upright is the LORD!

   Therefore, He instructs sinners in The Way.

            He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His Way.

*Hymn #486                    “Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy”

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Merciful God, we humbly confess our sins and ask for Your mercy.

   We confess we have not loved You with a pure heart.

   Rather than being wholly devoted to You,

   we have neglected Your ways out of fear of man.

   We also confess that we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves.

   Rather than be Your witnesses to the world,

   in cowardice, we have chosen to become like the world.

   Lord, heal us and forgive us.

   Set us free to love You and our neighbor.

   Empower us to serve You in our community and the world,

   that we may boldly proclaim Your life-giving gospel of grace.

   For this we pray in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (Psalm 25:6,7,11)

   Remember Your mercy, O LORD, and Your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

            Remember not the sins of my youth

            or my transgressions;

   According to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!

            For Your Name's sake, O LORD,

            pardon my guilt, for it is great.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
