“He Himself is Our Peace”

Pastor John W. Uhl * February 21, 2021 * 1st Sunday in Lent

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. - Ephesians 2:14-18

Intro:

    1. Jesus Himself is God’s Means for Peace Between Humankind (2:14,15).

     2.   Jesus Had Made True Peace Between Jews & Gentiles (2:14-16).

                      a. The Law is hostile to every sinner.

                        b. The Law’s penalty is death & Hell for every sinner.

                        c. The Law was a wall of hostility toward God for Jew & gentile.

17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 5:17-19

36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"

37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

38 This is the great and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." - Matthew 22:36-40

     3.  Jesus Has Made Peace in His Flesh By the Cross (2:14-18).
