ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of GOD

 First Sunday in Lent                   February 21, 2021

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 27:7-10)

   Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud;

            Be gracious to me and answer me!

   You have said, "Seek my face."

            My heart says to you, "Your face, LORD, do I seek."

   Hide not your face from me.

            Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help.

   Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!

            For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.

*Hymn #68                      “We Praise Thee, O God, Our Redeemer”

*Profession of Faith - Westminster Shorter Catechism Q? 39

   What is the duty which God requireth of man?

            The duty which God requireth of man,

            is obedience to His revealed will.

Epistolary Lesson                        Ephesians 2:14-18                                              (page 977 in pew Bible)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 27:4,11

   One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after:

            that I may dwell in the House of the LORD all the days of my life,

            to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD

            and to inquire in His temple.

   Teach us Your Way, O LORD,

            And lead us on level paths.

*Hymn #321                             “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”

*Hymn                                     “Jesus Lord We Look to Thee”

   1. By thy reconciling love Every stumbling block remove

       Each to each unite, endear Come and spread thy banner here

   Chorus: Jesus, Lord, we look to thee Let us in they name agree

                 Show thyself the Prince of Peace Bid all quarrels forever cease

   2. Make us of one heart and mind Courteous, pitiful, and kind

       Lowly, meek, in thought and word  Altogether like our Lord (Repeat chorus)

   3. Let us then with joy remove To thy family up above

       On the wings of angels fly Show how true believers die (Repeat chorus)

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

  Gracious Father, You dwell in a high and holy place,

   but also with those who are repentant and lowly in spirit.

   Yet we confess our hearts are proud and our eyes are haughty.

   We look down on others and are absorbed with ourselves.

   Level, O Lord, the mountains of our pride.

   Forgive us and free us from the idolatry of self,

   so that we may imitate the One who was gentle and humble of heart.

   We also confess how often we wallow in the valleys

   of self condemnation, guilt, and despair.

   Bring us up into the freedom and gladness

   that belong to those who rest and trust in your gospel of grace;

   for this we pray in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (Psalm 27:1,5,6,13,14)

   The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

            The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

   For He will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;

            He will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

   He will lift me high upon a rock.

            And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me,

   And I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;

            I will sing and make melody to the LORD.

   I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!

            Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
