Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 7:10-12, 17)

   My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.

            God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

   If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow;

            I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness,

            and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

*Hymn #45    “Crown Him with Many Crowns”          Diademata

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - The Children’s Catechism

   Can you keep the Ten Commandments perfectly?

            No. Since the fall of Adam, the only One who has been able to do this is Jesus.

   Of what use are the Ten Commandments to you?

            They teach me what is pleasing to God, and how much I need a Savior.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV)

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:89

  Forever, O LORD, Your Word is firmly fixed in the heavens.

Sermon                   “I Never Knew You”                                 Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Merciful God, we humbly confess our sins and ask for Your mercy.

   We confess we have not loved You with a pure heart.

   Rather than being wholly devoted to You, we have neglected Your ways out of fear of man.

   We also confess that we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves.

   Rather than be Your witnesses to the world, in cowardice, we have chosen to become like the world.

   Lord, heal us and forgive us. Set us free to love You and our neighbor.

   Empower us to serve You that we may boldly proclaim Your life-giving gospel of grace.

   For this we pray in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (Ephesians 2:8,9)

   For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing;

   it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

The Bread & The Cup

Hymn             “Jesus I My Cross Have Taken” vs. 1,3,4,5        Lyte, Moore

1. Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee.

Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shall be.

Perish every fond ambition, All I’ve sought or hoped or known.

Yet how rich is my condition! God and heaven are still my own.

3. Man may trouble and distress me, T’will but drive me to Thy breast.

Life with trials hard may press me; Heaven will bring me sweeter rest.

Oh, ‘tis not in grief to harm me While Thy love is left to me;

Oh, ‘twere not in joy to charm me, Were that joy unmixed with Thee.

4. Go, then, earthly fame and treasure, Come disaster, scorn and pain

In Thy service, pain is pleasure, With Thy favor, loss is gain

I have called Thee “Abba, Father”, I have stayed my heart on Thee

Storms may howl, and clouds may gather; All must work for good to me.

5. Soul, then know thy full salvation Rise o’er sin and fear and care

Joy to find in every station, Something still to do or bear.

Think what Spirit dwells within thee, Think what Father’s smiles are thine,

Think that Jesus died to win thee, Child of heaven, canst thou repine.

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
