Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 149:4-9)

For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.

Let the godly exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their beds.

Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands,

to execute vengeance on the nations and punishments on the peoples,

to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron,

to execute on them the judgment written! This is honor for all his godly ones. Praise the LORD!

*Hymn                                   “Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder” (attachment)              Newton, Taylor

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - The Children’s Catechism

What is the 8th Commandment? The 8th Commandment is "You shall not steal."

What does it teach you? Not to take anything that belongs to someone else.

Gospel Lesson                            Matthew 7:7-12 (ESV)

7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! 12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:85,86

The insolent have dug pitfalls for us; they do not live according to Your Law.

All Your Commandments are sure; they persecute us with falsehood; help us!

Hymn                         “Jesus, I Come” (attachment)                            Sleeper, Thompson

Sermon                     “Ask, Seek Knock”                                          Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

Heavenly Father, grant us Your enabling grace to repent of our pride and disobedience

and to submit to Your revealed will.

We have run from You and built up walls of hostility towards one another.

Free us from the idolatry in our hearts

that hinders us from a clean conscience and peace with You and others.

Save us from considering as normal

that which grieves Your Spirit and is offense to Your divine love.

Pour out Your Spirit on us that we may worship You with joy and uprightness of heart

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (1 John 1:8,9)

God shows his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
