ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of GOD
First Sunday in Lent March 01, 2020
*Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 32:8-11)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
or it will not stay near you.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
*Hymn #344 “Grace Greater than All our Sin”
*Prayer of Adoration
*Affirmation of Faith - The Children’s Catechism
What is the 3rd petition of the Lord’s Prayer?
The 3rd petition is "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
What does it mean to pray, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven"?
We are asking God to make us able and willing to serve him on earth just as he is served in heaven.
Prophetic Lesson Daniel 2:1-49 (see outline for text)
Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:97,98
Oh how we love Your Law! It is our meditation all the day.
Your commandment makes us wiser than our enemies, for it is ever with us.
*Hymn “Cling to the Crucified” Bonar, Twit

Cling to the Holy One, He gives relief
Cling to the Gracious One, Cling in thy pain
Cling to the Faithful One, He will sustain
Chorus: Cling to the crucified, Jesus the Lamb who died
Cling to the crucified, Jesus the King
Cling to the crucified, Jesus the Lamb who died
Cling to the crucified, Jesus the King
2. Cling to the Living One, Cling in thy woe
Cling to the Loving One, Through all below
Cling to the Pardoning One, He speaketh peace
Cling to the Healing One, Anguish will cease
3. Cling to the Bleeding One, Cling to His side
Cling to the Rising One, In Him abide

Sermon “Seek God & His Solutions (or Go Nuts)” Pastor John Uhl
Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually
Loving Father, who sent Your Son to seek and to save the lost,
to deliver captives, to give rest to the weary, and to heal the hurting:
we confess that we have lost our way.
Forgive our wayward and willful disobedience.
Forgive us for every thought, word, or deed
that has brought hurt to others, harmed ourselves, or dishonored Your name.
Grace us with Your Holy Spirit and lead us once again in the way that leads to life. Amen.
Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon (1 John 1:9)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The Bread & The Cup
*Hymn #653 “Whiter than Snow”
*Benediction
*Congregational Response “Three-fold Amen”
Postlude
*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.
New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.
The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.
Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
Staff - Shirley Madary, Office Manager * office@gcpcingram.org; John W. Uhl, Pastor * pastor@gcpcingram.org
