Third Sunday in Lent                  March 15, 2020

*Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 95:6-10)

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.

Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,

as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,

when your fathers put Me to the test and put Me to the proof, though they had seen My work.

For forty years I loathed that generation and said,

"They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways."

*Hymn #321                                     “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - The Children’s Catechism

What is the 5th petition of the Lord’s Prayer? "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."

   What does it mean?

We are asking God to forgive our sins for Christ's sake, and to make us willing to forgive others.

Prophetic Lesson                     Daniel 3:1-30 (see outline for text)

Affirmation of Holy Scripture - Psalm 119:100

We understand more than the elders, for we keep Your precepts.

*Hymn #21                            “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

Sermon         “Who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”      Pastor John Uhl

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Awesome and compassionate God,

You have loved us with unfailing, self-giving mercy, but we have not loved You.

You constantly call us, but we do not listen.

You ask us to love, but we walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns.

We condone evil, prejudice, warfare, and greed.

God of grace, as You come to us in mercy, we repent in spirit and in truth.

Grant us, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin

and to rise daily to new life in Christ,

who lives and reigns with You,

and in whose strong name we pray

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon   (1 Peter 3:18)

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous,

that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit

The Bread & The Cup

*Hymn #638                         “I Need Thee Every Hour”

*Congregational Response                    Three-fold Amen

*You are invited to Stand when prompted by Pastor John.

New Guests - We are so glad to have the privilege of worshiping the Lord with you. Please fill out one of our “Guest Cards” found on the table in the Narthex. This will help us in responding to any of your questions or needs. You can place them in the offertory plate or hand it to our pastor.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.

Ingram Extra - Join us after service in the Fellowship Hall for refreshment. If you would like, Pastor John will lead a small discussion at the couches in the FH. Our theme topic this Spring is Personal Eschatology.
