ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of  GOD

 Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost                 September 29, 2019

Responsive Call to Worship    (Psalm 51:15-17,12)

    O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths will declare Your praise.

            For You will not delight in sacrifice, or we would give it;

            You will not be pleased with a burnt offering.

   The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

            Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, and uphold us with willing spirits.

*Hymn #89                            “Jesus, The Very Thought of Thee”

*Prayer of Adoration

*Affirmation of Faith - Children’s  Catechism

   How is Christ your priest? Christ died for my sins and continues to pray for me.

   Why do you need Christ as your priest? Because I am guilty of breaking God's law.

Confessing Our Need of Christ Together and Individually

   Gracious Heavenly Father, we are sinners in your sight;

   yet, in Christ, You are reconciled to Your rebellious servants.

   Shamefully, we have experienced Your amazing grace toward us,

   but we have not loved You with our whole hearts nor our neighbors as ourselves.

   We confess that we often honor Your Son with our lips when our hearts are far from You.

   Forgive us for our hypocrisy and formality in religion.

   Forgive our neglect of Your Word, Your direction, and Your priorities.

   Forgive us for tolerating sin in the knowledge that grace abounds.

   The worship that You do not despise comes from a broken spirit and contrite heart before You.

   Therefore, according to Your steadfast love,

   wash us, cleanse us, and put new and right spirits within us

   that we may bring glory to Your name, through Jesus Christ we pray.

Assurance of the Lord’s Pardon  (Ephesians 2:8,9)

   For by grace you have been saved through faith.

   And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

   not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

*Hymn (see insert)                 “God Be Merciful to Me”                             Redhead, Miner

Offertory & Prayer of Thanksgiving

            Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below.

            Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper - We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday at Grace Covenant. All who trust in Jesus and Him alone for their salvation are invited to partake. Our custom is to distribute the elements processing forward by rows. After all are served, we then take the elements together. If you have a non-communing child, please bring them forward with you so Pastor John may pray for them. If you believe your child is ready to take Communion, please ask our Pastor about the process.

Cry Room - This special room is located in the back of the sanctuary should you have need. It is well appointed with the option to clearly hear the service.
